Latest Trend: Loom Bands

If you haven't heard of loom bands I don't know how. They are absulutly everywhere at the moment and mostly made by very young children. Its amazing to watch them pick up the skill and make the bracelets so quickly. I hadn't gotten the bug to try them just yet. Until today.

I picked up the latest issue of Making Jewellery Magazine and free with the issue was a pack of loom bands. Having watched my little cousin (who's 6) master this skill I figured its time I give it a go.

So I also picked up a loom set and a packet of black and white coloured bands to have a good go at trying to master these bracelets. I have been teaching my little cousin jewellery skills for the last year or so and she may end up having to teach me how to use the loom.

Hopefully in the next few days I will have a few photos to show you what I have made. Have you tried the loom bands?

I will leave you with a picture of the bands made my by little cousin. Hopefully I will have something resembling these when I'm done.

My Wire Heart Necklace in Making Jewellery Magazine

I sent a picture of the wire heart necklace I made a while back into Making Jewellery Magazine. I had made it after seeing the tutorial by Sian Hamilton and it was printed in May's issue which came out today.

So if your visiting my blog for the first time after seeing the piece welcome and don't forget to follow the blog to keep up to date with everything I'm doing.

Copper Wirework Heart

I recently picked up the February 2014 issue of Making Jewellery Magazine and fell in love with Sian Hamilton's Wired Heart tutorial.

Using the copper wire that I've been gathering out of old scrap electrical cables I made the heart.

To make it a little bit more Valentine-y I made a beaded chain using red seed beads and silver plated wire.

I love how its turned out.

Christmas Snowflake

I picked up the December Bumper issue of Making Jewellery Magazine last week and it came with a lovely packet of Preciosa mixed beads in blues and clear colours and a Chaton Rose. (you can also get the pack of beads in green as well). Inside the magazine where instructions to make a snowflake out of the beads using wire so I had to try it out. Im really happy with how its turned out. Its going to have to go on the tree as soon as we put it up.
